Golf Channel

UX/UI Design, CMS, Front End Design/Code
Project Overview
I had the opportunity to redesign Golf Channel a few times over the years when I was on this project. I am going to discuss the last one I worked on both moving from one CMS to another as well as a full redesign quickly following the move.
My Contributions
First, I refactored the code to make it more efficient in preparation for the move. Moved site to Drupal at the time. Once in Drupal we fixed all of the outstanding issues. Finally Redesigned the Homepage.

The old site used a very complex nav system and it was not responsive. So, first thing I did was make a more modern style nav. I then focused on the "top of page ticker leaderboard" similar to sports sites you see ESPN or CBS sports. The difference with golf is the vast different types of play as well as users just not interacting with it any more.  The most valuable real-estate on a site is the top left corner (English reading sites). The solution I came up with is to put the scores in this topmost viewed location for a few reasons. First, scores are why most people come to Golf Channel. Second, at the time I worked on this there was a sponsorship I had to keep in mind. Third, it was a great way to display a lot of scoring details. Below you will see many different versions of this leaderboard to illustrate the various versions needed as well as a before and after.

I also worked on the Featured Section, Latest News, What’s On and ad placements. My next focus was on the main content types. I set this up in a two-column grid. On the left the main editorial and news items. On the right a trending/breaking news aside. I also made a sponsored content block, as well as a partner of Golf Channel's GolfNow tee times widget. GolfNow is the leader in buying tee times online. The current site has changed since my work on it, but a lot of my foundational work can still be seen on the current site.
